Johan Grabblestein Apr 3, 2020 @ 2:33pm. If you keep your holdings they will declare war and all members will receive a massive relation debuff towards you. If you form a kingdom after leaving (through the quest), you will no longer be at war with them. The latter might be a bug.

This just happened to me as well. I'm with the Central Empire and rode to the far-right faction on the map so the empires wouldn't share borders, thinking that might prevent wars. Just a few days after I bought the workshop war was declared. You can't even play around it in any way and the war can pretty much always come the day after you buy it.
